Wanneroo Library and Cultural Centre Open Day
Thursday, 1 October 2009
The countdown to the official opening of the new $18.5 million Wanneroo Library and Cultural Centre is on, with less than a month to go until the day of celebrations.
Community members will have the chance to see the completed building and be entertained with a range of activities at the open day on Sunday, 25 October.
Wanneroo Mayor Jon Kelly said visitors to the Wanneroo Library and Cultural Centre could get a taste of everything the building had to offer.
“The Wanneroo Library and Cultural Centre is proving to be a hub of activity and entertainment in the City,” Mayor Kelly said. “The new building is one of the cornerstone projects of the Wanneroo Town Centre Revitalisation, and is the first in Western Australia to house this range of cultural services.”
On the open day take a look in the Regional Museum, where you can enjoy a rare ‘behind the scenes’ tour, test your skills on the spring surfboard and look up your family tree in the ‘Community History Room’.
Experience the excitement of a Broadway show in the theatrette with a performance by Limelight Theatre.
Inside the Library there will be Nintendo Wii tournaments in the Teen Lounge, children’s story-telling and computer demonstrations for the adults.
And make sure you go to the Gallery to see the ‘Forever and Easy’ rock and roll photography exhibition by Michael Wylie.
There will also be displays and food tastings in the ‘Great Court’, roving performers, buskers, outdoor aerial acts and community group demonstrations.
The Art ‘N’ About Art and Craft Markets will also take place next to the Wanneroo Library Cultural Centre, on Rocca Way, with clothing, jewellery and local crafts on offer.
The FREE Wanneroo Library and Cultural Centre Open Day is on from 11am to 4pm on Sunday, 25 October. For more information visit www.wanneroo.wa.gov.au.
The Wanneroo Library and Cultural Centre is a Wanneroo Town Centre Revitalisation Partnership project of the City of Wanneroo and the Government of Western Australia.
