More than 30 teams will tee off at Carramar Golf Course on Thursday 22 October 2009, for the City of Wanneroo’s annual Charity Golf Day.
Mayor Jon Kelly said that the event had become a huge success since it first started in 2001.
“The money we raise goes to the chaplaincy programs in each of the state high schools within the City,” Mayor Kelly said.
“Chaplaincy programs in public schools are vital to ensure teenagers and their families are supported through what can be a tough time in their lives.
“So when the state schools within the City were at risk of losing chaplaincy services in 2001, the Council resolved to hold its first Charity Golf Day.
“It was such a success that we decided that it should become an annual feature on the City’s events calendar.”
Mayor Kelly said that to date, the total money raised by the Charity Golf Day over the past eight years was $230,000.
“Last year we raised $37,500 so we hope to exceed this amount in 2009,” Mayor Kelly said.
“Teenage years can often be tough for adolescents, with many having to face serious issues and deal with extreme pressure.
“To help ensure there are school chaplains available to mentor our young students and provide support, is what the City’s Charity Golf Day is all about.
