Community embrace new Wanneroo Library and Cultural Centre

Monday, 19 October 2009

Since opening to the community on 7 September 2009, the Wanneroo Library and Cultural Centre has been inundated with hundreds of people enjoying the state-of-art building.

Mayor Jon Kelly said all three facilities within the new building, the Regional Museum, the Wanneroo Library and Exhibition space were all proving popular.

“About 50 people have been visiting the museum each day and this grew to 80 during the school holidays,” Mayor Kelly said.

“The museum has something for everyone from children and teenagers through to grandparents. Another great feature of the museum is the community history section, which people can access to find out about their family tree.”

Mayor Kelly said the Wanneroo Library, which was almost four times larger than any other library facility in the City, was also enjoying large numbers of customers.

“From September 2008 to September 2009, our membership has increased by almost 1500 members and the number of items we have lent has increased by 60 per cent,” he said.

“And since opening in the new building, the Wanneroo Library has received more than 700 new memberships. That is roughly 120 new memberships per week.

“These figures are very impressive and show just how much the community enjoy the services the City provide such as the libraries.

“It also tells me that the community are enjoying the new Wanneroo Library and Cultural Centre.”

The Wanneroo Library and Cultural Centre’s gallery space also opened its first exhibition on October 8 titled ‘Forever and Easy’, a rock ‘n’ roll photography exhibition.
