Almost 2000 people flocked to the Wanneroo Town Centre on Sunday for the official opening of the new Wanneroo Library and Cultural Centre and Art ‘N’ About Art and Craft Markets.
The $18.5 million building played host to the Open Day, with enough activities and entertainment to keep visitors busy from 11am to 4pm.
Wanneroo Mayor Jon Kelly said the Open Day was a huge success.
“It was fantastic to see so many people at the Open Day to celebrate the official opening of this remarkable building, and see everything the Wanneroo Library and Cultural Centre has to offer the community,” he said. “Wanneroo was alive and bustling on Sunday, which is exactly what we want from the Town Centre Revitalisation.”
The Wanneroo Library and Cultural Centre is the first in WA to house this range of cultural services, complete with a regional museum, theatrette, exhibition gallery, café and library, which is more than three times the size of any other City of Wanneroo library.
Crowds enjoyed the many activities, from olive tastings, cooking demonstrations and kids activities, to theatre performances and live music.
There were also 40 stalls at the Art ‘N’ About markets, with everything from jewellery, handbags, clothing and art for sale.
The Wanneroo Library and Cultural Centre is a Wanneroo Town Centre Revitalisation Partnership project of the City of Wanneroo and the Government of Western Australia.
