Firebreaks and Important Dates to Remember

Property owners are required to clear firebreaks by 15 November each year and maintain them until the following April. From the 16th November each year, firebreak inspections are carried out by the City's Rangers/Fire Control Officers on ALL vacant urban land and rural properties.

Changes will be advertised in the City’s Wanneroo Link feature in the Tuesday edition of the Wanneroo Times newspaper. When and How to Obtain a Fire Permit

Permits are available from the City of Wanneroo at the following locations:

• Wanneroo Animal Care Centre
  Located at the rear of the Ashby Operations Centre
  1204 Wanneroo Road, Ashby
  The City's Rangers/Fire Control Officers are available to issue permits
  7 days a week* from 4pm - 6pm
  *Except good Friday

  The City's Fire Control Officers/Permit Issuing Officers are available to issue permits Monday to Friday, from 9am - 4pm

Volunteer Bush Fire Brigades

The City of Wanneroo encompasses an area of 685 square kilometres. The City of Wanneroo Volunteer Bushfire Brigades provide a fire prevention and suppression service for the municipality with the exception of areas under the care and control of the Department of Environment and Conservation (DEC) and the gazetted fire districts controlled by the WA Fire and Rescue Service.

The bush fire fighting area consists of coastal dunes and gently undulating sand country with numerous outcrops of limestone and caprock. The vegetation of the district includes large areas of pine plantations, swamps, heavy bush areas, rural properties and buildings.

The City of Wanneroo Volunteer Bush Fire Brigade consists of four brigades with about 165 volunteer members who work rostered times 12 months of the year. Assistance is given to the WA Fire and Rescue Service and DEC when requested.

The City of Wanneroo Volunteer Bush Fire Brigade fire fighting fleet consists of 6 light tanker 4x4 appliances, 2 heavy duty 4x4 appliances, 1 light duty 4 x 4 appliance, 1 4x4 fire support dual cab utility, Mobile Canteen and a bus which is fitted out as an Incident Control Vehicle plus the resources of the City of Wanneroo if necessary eg: front end loader; 13,000 heavy water tanker.

Firebreak Inspections

 

Firebreak inspections are carried out on all vacant residential, rural, semi-rural, special rural and special residential land annually and if not constructed, an on the spot fine of $250.00 will be issued to the owner of the property.
