Mirrabooka Avenue Extension. Gnangara Road - Hepburn Ave

Mirrabooka Avenue Extension. Gnangara Road - Hepburn Avenue Road Construction/Public Information Session

As part of the City of Wanneroo's 2009/2010 Capital Works Program, Mirrabooka Avenue will be extended northwards from its current intersection at the Hepburn Avenue roundabout, connecting to Madeley Street, which will be upgraded to within 100 metres from its intersection with Gnangara Road and renamed Mirrabooka Avenue.

The proposed Stage 1 work includes:

  • Single lane dualling from Hepburn Avenue to Landsdale Road, and a single carriageway connection (ie: one-lane each way) on the eastern side of the road reserve to Gnangara Road. This would include a 1.5m wide sealed shoulder for on-road cycling;
  • Road connections at Landsdale Road, Heathfield Drive, Furniss Road, Bally Street and Southmead Drive (as presently exists for Madeley Street), with a new roundabout proposed at the intersection with Kingsway. This includes the non-continuation of Tony Martin Way with Denman Gardens;
  • Dual use path 2.5m wide for the entire length located primarily on the eastern side of the road reservation, with connections to existing paths, and;
  • Consideration of an underpass crossing at a location north of Landsdale Road intersection with Mirrabooka Avenue.

The Western Australian Planning Commission identified the land reservation set aside for the extension of Mirrabooka Avenue in 1994. Concept drawings allowing for a future dual carriageway (Stage 2) were produced to that effect at the time, preceding any subdivision land development in the area. The City then began preparation of Structure Plans for the East Wanneroo area and they were publicly advertised during 1998 and 1999. Amendments/updates were subsequently made to the Structure Plans, and Council subsequently endorsed them. Furthermore, as land has been developed in the East Wanneroo area, land developer infrastructure contributions have been made specifically to go towards the future extensions of arterial roads such as the extension of Mirrabooka Avenue.

The City is proposing to tender the construction of the proposed works in early 2010. As the construction of Mirrabooka Avenue may directly affect you, it is recommended that you familiarise yourself with with the plans above. Further detailed plans will also be on display at the City of Wanneroo Administration Centre, 23 Dundebar Road, Wanneroo until the end of November 2009.

A public information meeting will be held at 7.00pm on Thursday 26 November 2009 in the Boardroom at the Kingsway Indoor Stadium, 30 Kingsway, Madeley.
Carparking is available at this facility.

Whilst it is inevitable that the construction of the proposed works of this nature may cause some inconvenience to persons living in the vicinity, every endeavour will be made to ensure that this is kept to a minimum. The City considers that the proposed works to be undertaken will be for the mutual benefit of not only road users, but also the City's ratepayers and furthermore, yourself. Your cooperation therefore would be greatly appreciated.

It is advised that the successful Contractor will be required as part of the scope of works, to liaise with adjacent landowners for building inspections or other control and communication measures necessary for the project, prior to construction commencing.

Should you have any queries in relation to the project itselft, please contact the City's Project Manager Civil Contracts, Graeme Budge on telephone 9405 5000 in the first instance.
