Why recycle?
Recycling used products helps create a sustainable and healthy environment for us and future generations to enjoy.
Making products out of recycled material reduces the need to extract new materials from the environment, such as bauxite (for aluminium), iron ore (for steel), or silica sand (for glass).
Recycling products made from recyclable materials requires less energy, helping us to reduce environmental pollutions such as greenhouse gas emissions.
What day is my recycling collected?
Recycling carts are emptied every two weeks:

Be sure to place your recycling cart out by 6:00 AM on your collection day. Place the recycling cart at least one metre away from your rubbish cart to prevent blocking the refuse vehicle's arm.
What materials can I recycle?
Place the following materials inside the recycling cart:
- Clean glass bottles and jars (lids removed)
- Aluminium cans, clean foil and trays
- Steel food cans (rinsed clean)
- Clear plastic cool drink bottles coded 1 (rinsed)
- Plastic milk bottles coded 2 (rinsed)
Other items:
- Paper - Newspaper, junk-mail, office paper
- Cardboard - Leave as large as possible. (No beer/drink cartons)
- Car batteries - should be placed next to the cart
- Used engine oil - should be placed next to the cart in original container (up to 5L)
Please do NOT to put dangerous materials such as syringes, chemicals or gas bottles out for recycling.
Recycling materials are hand-sorted at the City’s Materials Recovery Facility (MRF) in Wangara, and the safety of our workers is very important. Putting out wrong materials for recycling contaminates the correct materials and makes the service more expensive and less effective.
Can I take my recycling cart with me if I change address?
No. Both the rubbish cart and recycling cart are registered to the property and must be left at the property that they were issued to.
