Support for Tourism Business

Support for Tourism Businesses

The City of Wanneroo is home to a range of unique tourism businesses, and the Economic Development team are working with local operators and organisations to promote the Wanneroo region, in an effort to improve the growth opportunities for local tourism operators. By working with and supporting local operators, the City aims to maximise the yield from tourism and its contribution to the future of Wanneroo, while maintaining the diversity of businesses and individuality of the region.

The City is continually working on initiatives to support local tourism businesses, including the following projects:

Tourism Industry Directory

The City of Wanneroo Tourism Industry Directory highlights the diversity of operators that exist within the City of Wanneroo and it serves to encourage interaction and networking within the industry. The directory is published annually, and is available to all operators in the area. If you are interested in getting a copy, or being included in the next edition, please contact Economic Development.

I-Cards

‘I-Cards’ are business-sized cards that showcase a range of local tourism businesses in the area. The cards are displayed in purpose built stands, which feature an easy to read map clearly locating each of the participating businesses. By joining forces, the numerous business ventures get maximum benefits from cross promotion and developing a strong network to enhance their competitiveness and market position. The ‘I-Cards’ can be found in over thirty local tourism businesses and their useful size means they can be tucked into purses and wallets to ensure visitors are encouraged to explore a little further and stay a little longer.

If you are interested in finding out how your business can participate in this project, contact the Economic Development team by telephoning 9405 5000 or email economic@wanneroo.wa.gov.au.

Accreditation

The Tourism Council WA is responsible for the National Tourism Accreditation Program in WA. This program is designed to establish and continually improve industry standards for conducting a tourism business. Accreditation provides consumers, and the industry, with an assurance that businesses are committed to professionalism both in operations and delivery of service. Accreditation is crucial in raising service standards, delivery and the development of quality products within WA. The accreditation program includes business operating systems, licences and permits, insurance details, marketing plans, customer service delivery, human resource management, risk management, economic sustainability and financial systems, environmental management, social and cultural sustainability, codes of practice and codes of ethics.

The accreditation course is also available online, so operators can complete it in their own time and at their own pace. There are a number of incentives currently available to accredited operators including marketing discounts, grant opportunities and reductions in insurance premiums to name a few.

To Find out more about accreditation, WA businesses need to contact the Accreditation Team at Tourism Council WA on 9416 0700 or visit the website www.atap.net.au.
