EcoVision Wanneroo

The City of Wanneroo is one of WA’s oldest and the fastest growing local government authorities, growing at approximately 7 per cent annually. In the face of this rapid growth, we are faced with the challenge of managing our City’s growth in a sustainable responsible way. It’s imperative we protect our environmental assets while providing for our present and future communities.

The City of Wanneroo is proud to rise to the challenge, joining forces with Cedar Woods properties to present the Eco-vision Wanneroo demonstration project.

The project will serve to showcase best practice in affordable and sustainable living through the design and construction of two homes on a single lot, in Tapping.

The demonstration homes will offer innovative, yet practical ways for our ever growing community to reduce their ecological footprint, while setting a benchmark in housing affordability.

In present times of climate change, mortgage crisis and rising household costs, we must look to minimizing our impact on the environment and providing affordable housing options for families in the community. Eco-vision Wanneroo is one of the many ways Council is working towards building a natural, built and healthy environment.

Design Competition Winner
Congratulations to John Damant of Arcologic Design who was announced the winner of the EcoVision Wanneroo Design Competition at the Winners Presentation Event 3 December 2008.

The Design
The EcoVision Wanneroo Demonstration Homes designed by Arcologic Design are 2 single storey homes on a 750 square metre block. The design features of the homes include:

• Passive solar design
• Water conservation and reuse
• Energy efficiency
• Waste minimisation
• Environmentally friendly materials and landscaping
• Multifunctional design and Universal Access
• Low allergen design considerations

The Location: The Kestrels
The EcoVision Wanneroo Demonstration Homes will be located in The Kestrels estate at Tapping, Wanneroo (Lot 1552, Ardea Way). Cedar Woods Properties Ltd is the developer of 'The Kestrels' estate and was awarded the City of Wanneroo 2006 Business and Industry Environmental Excellance Award. 'The Kestrels' is a Housing Industry Association accredited Greensmart estate and is acknowledged for its promotion of energy efficiency, water minimisation, waste minimisation and other environmental enhancement initiatives.
