What is a YAC?

YAC stands for Youth Advisory Council. Basically it’s a group of young people who:

• Meet regularly to talk about issues that affect them.
• Work together to find solutions to problems young people may be facing.
• Advise Local Council, State and Federal Government on behalf of their peers.

How does a YAC operate?

The YAC is made up of 20 young people, 2 councillors and 2 City of Wanneroo staff who meet regularly at the City of Wanneroo Civic Centre to discuss issues and concerns that are relevant to young people. Staff members from the City of Wanneroo’s Youth Services team are always on hand to provide help and support when needed.

On a less serious side, YAC members are also involved in a wide range of fun and exciting activities, including YAC camps.

Why would I want to be a part of the YAC?

• It's a great way to meet people in your area and around the State.
• Being on a Youth Advisory Council looks great on your resume.
• Doing good things for your community gives you a real buzz.
• It's a fantastic way to make your mark and influence people in Government.
• Young people deserve to have a say too!
• You can learn new skills and improve your confidence.
• It’s a terrific way to learn how government really works.
• It’s a lot of fun!

What do I need to do to be a YAC member?

If you’re aged between 12 and 25 and live, work or attend school in the City of Wanneroo you can nominate yourself to become part of this exciting team.

Click here to download a nomination form, or pick one up from the City of Wanneroo Civic Centre at any of our Youth Centres or by calling 9405 5000 and speaking to the Youth Projects Officer. If you're under 18, ask your parent/guardian to sign the consent form.
