Membership of the library service is free and anyone can join. Membership application forms are available at your local library. To register, you must visit the library and show documentary proof of your name and current address and be able to supply details of an alternative contact. Suitable documents for address verification include:

• WA Driver's Licence
• Western Power/Alinta Gas/Telephone Accounts
• Social Security Card
• Rates Notice
• Rental Receipt

ID with a photograph or signature is preferred.

If you are a temporary resident, or do not have any proof of address, you can pay a temporary membership deposit, which is refundable when you return your library card, or when you can show proof of address. If you are under 18 years old, a parent or guardian must accompany you and sign the membership register.
