The City of Wanneroo is assisting the Department of Health with its community vaccination program for swine flu (H1N1).
Human Swine Flu is an influenza virus that was first detected in April 2009.
The main symptom of human swine flu is a fever combined with either a sore throat or cough. Other symptoms may include fatigue, headache, muscle or joint aches and pains, and chills.
The vaccine (Panvax) will be available to all Western Australians from Wednesday 30th September 2009 and will be available at the Wanneroo Community Clinic on weekdays from 30th September 2009 to 9th October 2009.
The vaccine will also be available at GP clinics and Aboriginal Medical Services across the state.
The vaccination will be free-of-charge and people aged over 10 years-of-age may be vaccinated.
People at increased risk of severe illness from influenza and people who care for the sick are encouraged to get vaccinated. These people include:
- Frontline health care and community care workers who have direct contact with patients
- Pregnant women
- Adults and children aged 10 years and above, who have underlying chronic medical conditions such as asthma, cancers, HIV, heart disease, diabetes, and chronic kidney failure
- Indigenous people, and remote and isolated communities with vulnerable people
- Children in special schools aged 10 years and above
