The City of Wanneroo looks after assets on behalf of the community including roads, footpaths, buildings, parks, stormwater drainage and natural assets. These are essential for the delivery of services and to support the City’s vision for strong, vibrant and connected communities.
Good asset management practice is to provide the levels of service that the current and future community want, and are prepared to pay for in the most cost-effective way. The City’s Infrastructure Asset Management Policy sets outs the principles for the systematic and sustainable management of assets.
Plans for individual assets inform the City’s 10 year Strategic Financial Management Plan to ensure resources are allocated for maintenance and improvements at the right time to ensure that existing and new assets are looked after.

Buildings Asset Management Plan 2011
The Building Asset Management Plan covers a portfolio of 202 buildings including offices, libraries, community centres, sports facilities, day centres, depot, operational buildings, heritage buildings and a range of facilities to support community organisations.
The plan considers how these assets can be maintained, components renewed prior to failure and eventual replacement planned and budgeted for.
The City owns buildings as venues for service delivery and the nature of the service and expectation of users can lead to buildings becoming functionally or aesthetically redundant before the end of their physical life. Collection of data such as suitability (quality assessment), usage (quantitative assessment), energy efficiency and running costs helps to build up a picture of the value of the building to the community and influences decisions on renewal, upgrade, replacement or even closure.
This is the City's first Building AMP and includes actions for improvement which will help our approach to managing buildings.
