Residents are encouraged to lend a hand – or a green thumb – at the final City of Wanneroo winter planting event for 2011 on National Tree Day.
The planting event will be held at the rehabilitation site at Long Beach East, Mindarie, in conjunction with the Quinns Rocks Environmental Group.
Wanneroo Deputy Mayor Tracey Roberts, who regularly attends the planting events, said the City’s Conservation team needed more volunteers to help plant more than 1,300 endemic tube stock, and install tree guards to deter rabbits.
“This has been a rehabilitation site for two years, with the City removing non-native woody weeds and revegetating the area with local species to help achieve a functioning coastal bushland ecosystem,” Cr Roberts said.
“Our conservation team has already carried out weed control in preparation for the planting in the area, and we are hoping local residents will lend a hand for National Tree Day.”
