Abstract Earth comes to Wanneroo

Thursday, 28 Jul 2011
See the Australian landscape from the unique perspective of the sky in the latest exhibition at the Wanneroo Library and Cultural Centre.

Art on the Move presents the Abstract Earth exhibition by Dutch born photographer Richard Woldendorp, from 11 August to 11 September.

As a veteran of many flights and with 20 books, numerous group exhibitions and 30 solo shows both in Australia and overseas behind him, Woldendorp is acknowledged as a giant of Australian photography.

It is not only the natural landscape and its extraordinary features that have caught Woldendorp’s eye, but also the man-made aspects of the landscape such as farming, mining and construction.

Abstract Earth is not just landscape; it is the landscape photographed by Woldendorp, a trained commercial artist and painter who still views the world through a painter’s eye. Although each photograph in the exhibition is a precise record of a landscape seen from the air, these scenes have the power and presence of large abstract paintings.

The exhibition comprises 60 images, the majority taken in Western Australia, and the rest in New South Wales, Queensland, Northern Territory, South Australia and Victoria.

Abstract Earth: Photography by Richard Woldendorp will be on show at:

Wanneroo Library and Cultural Centre
3 Rocca Way, Wanneroo

Dates: 11 August - 11 September 2011
