The City of Wanneroo is giving local artists the opportunity to have their work displayed in the eco demonstration home project in Tapping.
The EcoVision Project is a joint venture between the City of Wanneroo and Cedar Woods properties, with two demonstration homes showcasing affordable, sustainable housing design.
The houses are being built by Benchmark Designer Homes and are due for completion by October.
Wanneroo Mayor Jon Kelly said the City was seeking local artworks to be displayed in the homes.
“In keeping with the environmentally sustainable principles of the building designs, the EcoVision team want to showcase local culture and explore how they can support local artists,” Mayor Kelly said. “This is a great opportunity for local artists to display their work and gain exposure to a broad range of people who may not necessarily visit traditional art exhibitions.”
Each selected artist would be able to display their artwork at the homes for up to two years. Artist contact details would be displayed next to each artwork, so if visitors were interested in purchasing or seeing more work, they could contact the artist directly.
“The demonstration homes will offer innovative yet practical ways for the community to reduce their ecological footprint by minimising energy and water use,” Mayor Kelly said. “The homes will be open to the public for up to two years and during this time free tours will be conducted and various workshops will be held.”
Interested artists should email Arts Development Officer Diane Tweedie at arts@wanneroo.wa.gov.au or call 9405 5913.
Preference will be given to artists who have environmental themes in their work, including images of the environment or the use of environmentally sustainable materials, such as recycled products.
Applications close Friday 1 July 2011.
