Calling all green thumbs

Wednesday, 08 Jun 2011
The City of Wanneroo’s annual winter planting events are just around the corner, and volunteers are needed to help plant the thousands of new trees and shrubs.

Six planting events will be held throughout June and July at various locations across the City, from Koondoola in the south through to Mindarie.

Mayor Jon Kelly is encouraging residents to help out at the planting days, no matter what their gardening ability is.

“With thousands of plants to go in at the six locations, we really need help from the community,” Mayor Kelly said.

“The planting days are usually at degraded sites that need revegetating, and winter is the best time for the planting to occur.”

The final community planting event coincides with National Tree Day, which will be held at Longbeach East, Mindarie on 31 July.
