Step back in time in the City of Wanneroo for International Museum Week.
The City of Wanneroo has plenty of activities planned to celebrate this momentous week, from the Wanneroo Regional Museum to the City’s most historical sites – Buckingham House and the old Wanneroo School House, as well as Cockman House.
Scrapbook Conservation Workshops
Thursday, 19 May // 10am – 12pm
Sunday, 22 May // 2pm – 4pm
Discover the tradition behind the historic scrapbooks in the museum collection and learn techniques to preserve your personal items through modern scrap booking.
Wanneroo Mayor Jon Kelly said these hands-on workshops would be held in the museum’s Community History Centre, and will be run by museum staff.
“Modern scrapbooking has developed from a long-held tradition of recording and storing personal memorabilia and mementos,” Mayor Kelly said. “However if the correct materials are not used, original photographs can be destroyed.
“We want people in our community to preserve their historic documents correctly, while at the same time learning the history behind them, so the stories of Wanneroo can be remembered for a long time to come.”
The workshops will show what factors can lead to decay of the historic documents and photographs, as well as explore which techniques and archival quality papers, cards, plastics, pens and tapes are suitable for preservation and presentation of your most treasured memories.
Participants are encouraged to bring along a document or photograph which they will be taught to encapsulate in archival Mylar film.
Cost: $10 per session. Bookings essential. Call the Wanneroo Museum on 9405 5920.
