Wanneroo Mayor Tracey Roberts is inviting residents to donate and help those less fortunate in the local community.
The Mayor’s Appeal is now underway, with donation bins being delivered to local businesses and schools.
“For most people Christmas is the most wonderful time of year. But it can also be a time of financial difficulty for some, which is why we choose to help many of our own residents each year,” Mayor Roberts said.
“This year, in addition to Christmas gifts, vouchers and non-perishable food items, the Mayor’s Appeal is collecting monetary donations to provide support for families with back to school expenses, including books, uniforms and stationery, which often add to the strain on families.”
- Examples of non-perishable food items that can be collected include:
- Christmas puddings/cakes
- Fruit mince pies
- Cakes, cake mixes and biscuits
- Nuts, crackers and chips
- Pasta and sauce
- Tinned foods (sweet and savoury)
- Jams and spreads
- Tea, coffee and sugar
- Long life milk
- Cereals
- Rice and noodles
- Chocolates
- Muesli bars
Examples of gift vouchers include Coles, Kmart, Target, Big W etc.
Appeal closes Friday 9 December 2011.
