The City of Wanneroo’s Opportunity Playspace at Rotary Park has been listed as the best playground in Western Australia in the RAC’s October – November edition of Horizons magazine.
The magazine explored 10 of the best playgrounds in the State, with Opportunity Playspace coming in at number one.
Wanneroo Mayor Tracey Roberts said it was fantastic that the innovative playground was acknowledged as the perfect place for families to have fun.
“Since it was built in 2008 we knew how special and popular the Playspace would be, and it is wonderful that the RAC has recognised the playground,” Mayor Roberts said.
“The Playspace was rated WA’s third most popular park by a Playgroup WA Poll in 2010, but we know it is the best.”
Opportunity Playspace features innovative, universal access play equipment suitable for children of all ages and abilities, including a liberty swing for children in wheelchairs.
With an elevated tree walk, slides, space net, cubby house, swings and climbing frames, the playground is also a perfect place for a family day out with barbeque facilities, picnic tables and large grassed areas.
Earlier this year the City received $82,000 of Federal Government funding for a universal access toilet block to be constructed on site, with the City contributing the other 50 per cent of the project cost.
