Road safety reinforced in Blessing of the Roads

Monday, 04 Apr 2011
The need to take care on our roads and be courteous to other road users will be recognised in the City’s annual Blessing of the Roads event.

The City of Wanneroo will host its annual Blessing of the Roads event on Thursday, 14 April 2011 ahead of the Easter long weekend and ANZAC Day public holiday.

The ceremony will take place at the Carramar Golf Course Estate entrance, at the corner of Wanneroo Road and Joondalup Drive, Tapping from 10am and will be attended by members of the WA Police and Fire and Emergency Services.

In addition, students from St Anthony’s Primary School, St Stephens Carramar and Mindarie Senior College, will attend and play a part in the ceremony, laying wreaths to remember those that have lost their lives on our roads.

Deputy Mayor Tracey Roberts said the Blessing of the Roads ceremony served as a timely reminder to drivers to take care on our roads.

“The City of Wanneroo is committed to making road safety a reality,” she said.

“The road safety message is often in the media, but this event helps to act as a catalyst to drive the message home, as well as remember those who have been killed on our roads.”

The new-look Driver Reviver Caravan, purchased by the City of Wanneroo through funding received from the WALGA/Roadwise Local Government and Community Road Safety Grant program, which is funded by the Road Trauma Trust Fund administered by the Road Safety Council, will also be displayed at the ceremony.

Local media are invited to attend the Blessing of the Roads.
