Some background
Harmony Week runs annually from 15-21 March & enables us to recognise & respect our differences, while focusing on what unites us as West Australians. It provides an opportunity for all to embrace our diversity and the many benefits this brings to our society.
Wanneroo is one of the most multicultural cities in Australia with approx. 35.4% of it's people born overseas. The 2006 Census showed that almost 60% of people living in the City of Wanneroo has either one or both parents born overseas and more than 15% spoke a language other than English at home.
Research has identified training and finding paid work as vital to successful settlement & integration into the Australian community. The reality is that there are many agencies providing specialised services for migrants in regards to employment however more needs to be done to bring these programs & opportunities to the attention of those who need them most.
