Using Libraries

Use of library card

You must present a valid library card in order to borrow items from the Library. Family members are welcome to use each other’s cards if they wish, but the card holder (or that person's parent or guardian) is responsible for any items borrowed on the card.

Loan limit

You may have up to 15 items on loan on your card at the same time. This can be a combination of:

  • Books
  • Magazines
  • Talking Books
  • Videos
  • CD-ROMs
  • Music CDs
  • DVDs
Loan period

3 weeks for all items, however, earlier return of items which are in demand (especially videos, music CDs and DVDs) is much appreciated.

Renewing loans

If an item is not overdue, or requested by another borrower, it may be renewed for a further loan period of 3 weeks, from the date that renewal is requested. You can renew loans by telephoning the library, or online in the library catalogue which requires your library membership number and PIN.

Overdue loans

An invoice will be sent for items that are overdue. Borrowing is not permitted if there are outstanding overdue items on your card.

Lost or damaged items

Items that are lost or damaged whilst on loan will be charged at depreciated cost, plus GST. If you do not return a loan you will receive an invoice from the City of Wanneroo.

Reserving an item

If the title you want is already on loan, you can place a reservation to borrow a copy and the library will send notification, either by mail or by email if you have supplied your email address, when it is available for you to collect. You can place a reservation at the library (either directly on a computer, or by filling in a request form), by telephone, email, or through the online library catalogue.

There is no charge for placing a reservation, but try not to reserve so many items that you won’t be able to borrow them all when they arrive!

Request an item on inter-library loan

No library service will be able to stock every title that its' members might want. If the title you require is not in the City of Wanneroo's collection, we may be able to make an inter-library loan request for you. On some occasions there may be delays, especially if the title is sought from collections outside Western Australia. Inter-library loan requests may be placed at the library, by telephone, or by email. There is no charge for inter-library loan requests, however due to the time and resources involved in seeking inter-library loans, we appreciate your call if you no longer require the publication requested.

Membership renewals

Your library membership will automatically come up for renewal every two years. This allows us to check that your contact details have not changed. If you do not use your library card for an extended period, it may be automatically deleted from our database. If this happens, you will need to rejoin the library the next time you would like to borrow items. See Becoming a Member for more information on how to rejoin.

Change of contact details

PLEASE let the library know if you change your home or email addresses or phone number, so we can all keep in touch!

Email address

If you have an email address that the library can use, we can send notices to you more quickly. But remember, you must check your email regularly, as no ‘snailmail’ duplicate will be sent.

Lost or stolen library card

It is VERY IMPORTANT that you report a lost or stolen card as soon as possible. Until it is reported, you are responsible for anything that is borrowed on the card. There is a charge for the replacement of lost or stolen cards. Stolen cards can be replaced free of charge if a police report number relating to the theft is provided.
