Building and Renovating Sustainably

There are a number of ways we can all build more sustainable homes, from the design process to the choice, quality and colour of materials that are used and even the appliances that are chosen. For instance, high star rated appliances cost a little more money up front to buy but can save money as they use less electricity to run.

In our Perth climate, a well orientated home that has eaves, well positioned windows and uses landscaping to keep the heat out in summer can significantly reduce the need to turn on the fan or air conditioner which can in turn save the occupant money while helping the environment at the same time.

It is worth talking to your builder or architect about your preferences for a sustainable home and ask questions to ensure the home you build is not going to cost you or the environment more in the long run.
