ALERT LEVEL:
A bushfire WATCH AND ACT has been issued for people in Franklin Road and Trichet Road in Jandabup in the City of Wanneroo.
The fire is burning in swamp land near Jandabup Lake between Hawkins Road and Franklin Road.
There is a possible threat to lives and homes as a fire is approaching the area and conditions are changing.
You need to leave or get ready to actively defend.
WHAT TO DO:
- Put your bushfire survival plan into action.
- If you are not prepared or you plan to leave, leave now if the way is clear.
- There is ember attack ahead of the fire, so close all doors and windows, and turn off evaporative air conditioners, but keep water running through the system if possible.
- If you are well prepared and plan to actively defend your home, make final preparations now.
- If you are staying to defend start patrolling around your house with your garden hose and check for spot fires.
- If you are not at home, do not try to return as conditions in the area could be very dangerous.
ROAD CLOSURES:
Hawkins Road between Townsend Road and Trichet Road is closed.

BUSHFIRE BEHAVIOUR:
The bushfire is moving slowly in a north westerly direction towards Franklin Road.
It is currently burning in swamp land however it is not yet controlled.
Embers are likely to be blown around your home and flames are three to four metres high.
Firefighters are expecting the wind to change from south east to north east at lunch time which will cause more smoke and ember attack in the area.
The forecast wind change means homes on to the west may be impacted by the fire and you need to keep up to date.
The fire was reported at 3.40am today.
WHAT FIREFIGHTERS ARE DOING:
Sixty career and volunteer Fire and Rescue Service and Bush Fire Service firefighters from six stations and brigades are on the scene.
Three helitacs and one type 1 helicopter have been sent to assist ground crews.
Firefighters are protecting houses in Franklin Road.
CAUSE:
The cause of the fire is lightning.
