Wanneroo Mayor Tracey Roberts says the City is excited to be celebrating the 70th anniversary of Children’s Book Week with activities at various libraries and facilities throughout the month, including two special events at Yanchep Community Centre.

“The Children’s Book Council of Australia’s theme for this year’s event is ‘books light up our world’ and there is plenty of evidence to show they do,” Mayor Roberts said.

“The importance of developing a love of reading in children from an early age is well documented and research indicates that it is never too early to read to children.”

An interactive story time session will be held at the Yanchep Community Centre on Wednesday 26 August at 10am.  There will also be free playgroup activities.

The centre’s Children's Book Tree will be officially launched on Thursday 27 August.

It is an extension of the new Little Free Library and everyone is encouraged to bring along a suitable book to begin the exchange for younger residents.

Activities start at 9.30am with fun for the whole family, including a balloon artist.

Other Book Week events (with a pirate theme) are being held at the City’s libraries this month.  Bookings for those are essential and can be made through the City’s events calendar at www.library.wanneroo.wa.gov.au or by calling your local library.
