As part of the City of Wanneroo’s Access and Inclusion Plan, the City has introduced a translation tool on its website to ensure online information is available in multiple languages.

City of Wanneroo Mayor Tracey Roberts said research showed 18 per cent of City residents speak a language other than English in their homes.

“We have many residents who have moved to the City of Wanneroo from all over the world. To acknowledge these diverse backgrounds, it is important that we ensure our services can be accessed by all residents,” Mayor Tracey Roberts said.

“Making our website available in multiple languages provides an opportunity to include everyone who lives within the City,” she said.

Languages other than English spoken in the City of Wanneroo include Vietnamese (2.7 per cent), Afrikaans (1.3 per cent), Italian (1.1 per cent), Macedonian (1 per cent) and Arabic (1 per cent).

These languages are now available on the bottom navigation bar of the City’s website homepage. For a further 50 languages, there is a link to a translation page so users can select the language of their choice.

Each year the City of Wanneroo welcomes around 8,000 new residents into the City and increasingly more and more residents are born overseas, coming from non-English speaking backgrounds.

With this new translation tool, City information about local services, facilities, programs and events is available in 55 foreign languages.
