Tri-Cities Alliance showcases region’s enormous tourism and jobs growth potential

Mayors and CEOs from the Cities of Joondalup, Stirling and Wanneroo have again united at Parliament House in Canberra to highlight the massive economic potential of the three Cities.

Wanneroo Mayor Tracey Roberts said the Tri-Cities Alliance delivered an important message to federal politicians about the need for government funding to support infrastructure and job creation.

“The Tri-Cities region accounts for 23 per cent of Perth’s population and is forecast to experience significant growth in the near future, which requires sound planning and continued progress,” she said.

“The joint Tri-Cities presentation provided politicians from all sides of government the opportunity to learn about the priorities of the growth coast, which is experiencing rapid population increases and in turn pressures on transport links and infrastructure.

“The City of Wanneroo is the powerhouse of growth for the region, adding more than three kilometres of new roads each month, 12 babies are born each day and we welcome 8,000 new residents each year.  We are currently home to about 190,000 residents.

“The City attracts thousands of tourists seeking the allure of our national parks, bushland, stunning coastline and sandy beaches.  We must capitalise on the economic potential by providing the necessary amenities and transport links and continue to be innovative and strategic in our planning for the future of our thriving region.

“The Tri-Cities event identified a key project for each City, the Scarborough Beach redevelopment, a performing arts centre for Joondalup and the City of Wanneroo’s Neerabup Strategic Link.  Our focus is to connect local people to local jobs by strengthening the east-west link across our City.   The Neerabup Strategic Link will accelerate the development of the Neerabup Industrial Area (NIA) the largest single industrial complex in the Perth northern metropolitan area.

“Forecasts suggest NIA will generate 20,000 direct jobs and add $7.9 billion of Gross State Product, a large economic benefit for the area and a catalyst for further growth and we need federal support to make the most of that.”
