The City of Wanneroo welcomed yesterday’s announcement by the State Government to provide $200,000 funding for a shark barrier at Quinns Rocks beach.

Mayor Tracey Roberts said she was delighted the State Government has acknowledged the need for a 300-metre shark barrier as part of the WA Budget.

“The new enclosure will provide peace of mind to the thousands of swimmers who use the beach every year,” Mayor Roberts said.

“We have been campaigning for support to install this barrier for many months so this is a great outcome as a result of our hard work in this area.”

The shark barrier is expected to cost $300,000 with the City of Wanneroo to pick up the rest of the anticipated cost.

The City of Wanneroo will now work with key stakeholders to deliver the beach enclosure by the end of this year.
