City of Wanneroo has most Fund Our Future supporters

Published Monday, 20th June 2016

An overwhelming demonstration of support from the community has put the City of Wanneroo first in the nation for the number of residents signing the Fund Our Future campaign petition.

Fund our future
More than 12,000 emails have been sent by local residents to politicians in Canberra, calling for a national dedicated infrastructure fund for high-growth outer suburbs.

City of Wanneroo Mayor Tracey Roberts said the number of people demonstrating their support for the campaign was a reassuring sign that the community saw the importance of funding vital infrastructure projects.

“This is an encouraging sign that our residents are supportive of the projects we are asking for as part of the Fund Our Future campaign; a rail extension to Yanchep and extension of the freeway to Romeo Road,” Mayor Roberts said.

The City of Wanneroo will be actively promoting the Fund Our Future campaign on Tuesday 21 June throughout the northern suburbs, whereby volunteers and employees will be asking residents to go online to www.fundourfuture.info to sign the petition.

Mayor Roberts encouraged all residents who had not yet done so, to sign the petition which will be distributed to politicians and key decision-makers in Canberra prior to the Federal election on 2 July 2016.

“Our residents in the northern suburbs have been disadvantaged for too long, spending up to 90 mins in traffic each way, simply to get to work in the city.

“The Fund Our Future campaign is calling on our Federal Government to put some money aside to fund these much-needed infrastructure projects, which will alleviate some of the traffic congestion and long commute times for our residents in the
north,” she said.

“This is our opportunity to put the road and rail infrastructure we need in our community under the national spotlight.”
