Play area to commemorate toddler Sam Trott

Published Monday, 27th June 2016

The City of Wanneroo community were devastated after the tragic death of Landsdale toddler Sam Trott. Council resolved to construct a nature play area in his honour.

Wanneroo
Mayor Tracey Roberts said locals demonstrated true community spirit during the search for Sam and had been deeply affected by the loss.

“The creation of the nature play area will provide an enduring legacy and a fun and stimulating environment for families to enjoy,” Mayor Roberts said.

“More than anything Sam’s family wanted to give back to the community who supported them, so we have worked very closely with the Trott family on this important project.

“I know this play area will be well loved by the community and will provide an additional amenity to the existing infrastructure at Warradale Park.”

It is anticipated the $280,000 facility will be complete in September 2016.

The fenced playground will include slides, swings, a timber tepee, musical instruments, an imitation creek, timber activities and picnic tables.

A working group including the Trott family, Mayor Tracey Roberts, the Chief Executive Officer and Councillor Brett Treby worked together to progress the location and design of the play space before it was presented to Council for a decision in November 2015.
