Improvements to the old BMX dirt jumps include construction of a pump track for younger riders and beginners, as well as an intermediate and advanced track.

The facility is fenced and there will also be new plants, a picnic shelter, bike rack and bench seating constructed.

The project was undertaken as a result of requests from community members, and extensive community consultation was carried out including surveys, workshops and a focus group was developed to assist with the design and concept development.

Director of Community and Place Fiona Hodges said it was exciting that the newly upgraded facility was due to be open to the public in a matter of weeks.

“The Houghton park BMX upgrade is approaching completion, and is eagerly anticipated by so many of our young community members,” she said.

“The City of Wanneroo recently completed the new Wanneroo Skate Park, so it is fantastic that we now have another brilliant facility – this time in our north ward – for our younger residents, as well as those who are young at heart.

“It is great to see young people out being active, and this is yet another example of Council encouraging a healthy lifestyle.”
