Community urged to get on board Connect Wanneroo campaign for jobs, roads and rail

Published Tuesday, 1st November 2016

People tired of traffic congestion are being encouraged to support a community campaign backed by the City of Wanneroo in the lead up to the March State Election.

Connect Wanneroo

Connect Wanneroo seeks a commitment from the State Government to extend the Mitchell Freeway to Romeo Road, Alkimos and rail to Yanchep in the next term of government.

Mayor Tracey Roberts said the campaign is an important opportunity for the community to ensure their voices are loudly and strongly heard at a state level and its success will depend on the level of community support.

“The City of Wanneroo covers 684km2 from Breakwater Drive, Two Rocks to Beach Road in Koondoola, therefore as the economy transitions local jobs are incredibly important for members of our community,” Mayor Roberts said.

“Extending the freeway and rail line are essential investments in our future to improve access to education and health care, stimulate local jobs for local people, attract investment for future business development, in addition to reducing congestion that our local families experience too often.

“As Western Australia’s largest growing local government area, 20 people move into the City every day, our population has doubled over the past decade to 198,000 however that figure is predicted to double again over the next 25 years.

“I urge everyone to get on board the campaign and use the Connect Wanneroo website to send a pro forma email to politicians and candidates as soon as possible - supporters can also sign reply paid post cards which will be delivered to Parliament.”

A Connect Wanneroo campaign bus driven by a local business owner will also ensure the message is seen throughout the metropolitan and outer metropolitan areas ahead of the State Election.
