Food for thought with mobile vendors

Published Tuesday, 20th June 2017

The City of Wanneroo is seeking feedback on local food trucks, that have been operating in various places in the community, under an initiative that may see mobile food vendors trading year round.

Food Trucks

The food truck trading trial has operated since January and residents and businesses have until the end of June to submit their comments.

City of Wanneroo Mayor Tracey Roberts said the trial has enabled residents to experience cuisine from all around the world and created a vibrant foodie culture.

“Potentially this could allow food trucks to trade all year, giving small businesses an avenue to gain loyal customers, enabling our residents to have more eating options within the City,” she said

Currently, 79 per cent of residents surveyed say they would like to see food trucks trading all year, with just 2 per cent of residents against the initiative, and 19 per cent opting for summer-only trading.

Through community engagement, the trial has received a lot of positive feedback with residents saying the food trucks help bring the community together, encourage family time, discover new parks, allow them to enjoy the outdoors and create a sense of place.

The City continues to engage with a range of stakeholders including nearby residents, sporting clubs, food businesses and the WA Mobile Food Vendors Association.
