City’s Books-in-a-Bag program proves popular

Published Friday, 29th September 2017

The City of Wanneroo has been supplying book kits to more than 70 book clubs under its Books-in-a-Bag program which allows users to borrow ten copies of the same book at one time.

The current collection features more than 180 Books-in-a-Bag, and borrowers can enjoy the same book over the month before discussing it with their book clubs when they get together.

Previously, the collection was made up with mostly classic titles, or books that had won awards, but recently more ‘popular’ titles have been added to appeal to a wider audience. Some of the kits also come with DVDs if there has been a film produced from the book.

Residents do not have to live within the City of Wanneroo to take advantage of the book kit scheme, and many of the members are from around Perth and further afield – some as far away as Carnarvon.

Users of the book kits simply have to logon to the online KitKeeper system to reserve their kits up to six months in advance. The fee per book club is $150 and it is an annual membership.

For those who want to join a book club but do not know of any within their local area, the City holds book clubs in its branches so no one misses out. If you are interested in joining a book club, please email librarysupport@wanneroo.wa.gov.au or go into your local City of Wanneroo library to talk to staff.
