Council accepted a tender from McCorkell Constructions for $2.49 million for two sports buildings, which will benefit the Olympic Kingsway Sports Club.

Council also noted that additional funding of $202, 772 would be allocated in the City’s 2019/2020 Capital Works Budget for completion of the construction works.

Two separate buildings are being constructed to suit the existing infrastructure and layout. Each building will include unisex change rooms, toilets, a first aid room and external storage.

Mayor Tracey Roberts said the City had consulted with the Olympic Kingsway Sports Club during the initial concept and detailed design stages.

“Consultation has been an important part of the design process to ensure that the new buildings meet the needs of the Club and Football West,” Mayor Roberts said.

“The City will continue to consult with the Club during the construction period to minimise any impacts on the Club.” Olympic Kingsway Sports Club president Steven Nelkovski said the new buildings would be welcomed by all club members.

“We have been based at Kingsway since 1973 when the original clubroom was built and the club was much smaller,” Steven said.

“Today we have around 800 members and have completely outgrown the existing facilities, so we are very much looking forward to having an improved facility that benefits all our players.”

The City is investing $2.4 million towards the project which has a total budget of almost $2.9 million.

Other financial contributions include a $200,000 grant from the Department of Infrastructure and Regional Development and $248,715 from Olympic Kingsway Sports Club.

Project will also receive a grant from the Department of Infrastructure and Regional Development and financial contributions Olympic Kingsway Sports Club.

Construction is scheduled to commence in December 2018 and the expected date of completion is September 2019.
