About the position

We are seeking a Senior Waste Management Officer to work in the Waste Services team. Reporting to the Coordinator Waste Management, the position will ensure the City develops and implements its strategic waste goals. The successful appointee will be responsible for:

  • Researching, reviewing waste management issues, and analysing statistical performance, to identify emerging issues, developing evidence-based options and recommending solutions;
  • Assisting with the development and implementation of strategic waste documentation;
  • Assisting with the implementation of strategy priorities to deliver on key objectives in the City's Waste Plan, Strategic Community Plan, and Corporate Business Plan;
  • Undertake licensing and compliance related activities;
  • Collaborating with the various teams in Waste Services, and other internal and external stakeholders to ensure the timely delivery of projects and tasks;
  • Assisting with internal and external reporting; and,
  • Researching and providing technical, regulatory and strategic advice that leads to better customer service, operational and business outcomes.

About you

You must be adaptable and ready to take on a challenge. The role would be perfectly suited to someone who has:

  • Qualification in relevant discipline, such as Environmental Science, Sustainability, Education, or relevant experience.
  • Intermediate experience in the efficient utilisation of information systems and technology.
  • Intermediate computing, numeracy and literacy skills.
  • Intermediate organisational skills with the ability to prioritise competing tasks.
  • Intermediate customer service skills.
  • Intermediate organisational skills with the ability to prioritise competing tasks.
  • Advanced communication and problem-solving skills.
  • Intermediate research and analysis skills.
  • Knowledge of the practical application of occupational health and safety measures in the workplace including hazard identification in an office environment.
