To assist us with the changeover, please follow the steps below on your usual waste collection day.

  • Step 1: Property occupiers, please leave your general waste bin out from 6am to 6pm on your usual waste collection day.
  • Step 2: The City of Wanneroo will empty your general waste bin as usual and leave it on the kerbside.
  • Step 3: Your new red lid will be swapped on the same day.
  • Step 4: You can remove your bin from the kerbside after it has been emptied and the lid swapped over.

Frequently asked questions

Why is my bin lid being changed?

The City of Wanneroo is fitting all its general waste bins with a red lid to align with the Australian Standard for Mobile Waste Containers (AS 4123).

This will make it easier for all Australians to know which bin to put things in, even if they change where they live.

How do I know when my lid will be changed?

Your lid will be changed on your usual waste collection day. Please leave your general waste bin out from 6am to 6pm each bin day, until your lid has been changed.

Or, enter your address in the Near Me functionality on the Waste and Recycling page to find out when your general waste bin will receive a new red lid.

What happens if my lid wasn't changed on its scheduled day?

If your bin lid wasn't changed on its scheduled day, please leave your general waste bin out from 6am to 6pm each bin day, until your lid has been changed.

What happens if my bin wasn't left out?

If your bin was not out on the kerb and did not receive a red lid, please leave your general waste bin out from 6am to 6pm each bin day, until your lid has been changed.

What happens if I registered for a 140L general waste bin?

If you have registered to receive a smaller general waste bin, your lid will not be replaced. Your new 140L red lid general waste bin will be delivered in July and August 2021.

What will happen to the old green lids?

The old green lids will be recycled into plastic pellets to be used to make new bins.

Why does my general waste bin have a sticker on it?

Either you have registered for a smaller 140L general waste bin or the size of your existing bin is incompatible with the new red lids the City of Wanneroo is installing. For more information, scan the QR code on your bin sticker.
