From Canberra to Wanneroo: National Gallery of Australia loans video works by 13 acclaimed artists

Time-based Encounters features significant video works from international and national artists that are on loan from the National Gallery of Australia as part of Sharing the National Collection.

Many of these works have never been exhibited before in Western Australia.

The Sharing the National Collection program gives suburban, regional and remote galleries a chance to access the more than 155,000 artworks contained in the country’s premier art collection. 

Time-based Encounters showcases media art from the 1960s and 70s, Australian First Nations artists as well as contemplative / slow art and contemporary works.

Wanneroo Mayor Linda Aitken said Time-based Encounters was another significant coup for Wanneroo Regional Gallery and demonstrated the City’s commitment to making arts and culture accessible to the local community. 

“We are delighted to again collaborate with the National Gallery of Australia to bring this significant exhibition to Wanneroo,” she said. 

“This partnership with one of Australia’s most important cultural institutions provides a valuable opportunity for local audiences to experience nationally important artworks – close to home. 

“We are very grateful for this opportunity and thank the Australian Government and National Gallery of Australia for their support.”

Time-based Encounters is on display at Wanneroo Regional Gallery from 5 August to 3 October 2026. Wednesdays to Saturdays, 10am to 4pm. Admission is free.
