Have your say on the City’s new dog beach locations

The locations are being explored following strong community support for more dog beaches during consultation on the City of Wanneroo 2021 Coastal Management Plan, with 93 per cent of respondents supporting the idea.

Mayor Linda Aitken urged dog owners, beachgoers and the wider community to have their say before consultation closes.

“Registered dogs in the City have more than doubled, from 18,500 in 2012 to more than 38,000 in 2025, so we know there is growing demand for places where people can exercise their dogs safely," she said.

“This consultation will help us understand how the potential locations could work for everyone, while balancing community use, safety as well as impacts on wildlife and vegetation.

“Whether you own a dog or not, we want to hear from as many people as possible before this is brought back to Council for a final decision."

The proposed locations are:

• Clayton’s Beach, Mindarie between Alexandria View and Peaceful View;
• South Mindarie Beach, extending from Peaceful View south for approximately 1.1 km to the City’s south-western boundary with the City of Joondalup;
• Extension of Two Rocks dog beach, an approximate 1.16 km extension south from the existing dog beach, continuing towards the new Southern Two Rocks car park and beach access; and
• Alkimos, approximately 200 metres south of the Shorehaven coastal node and running south for approximately 800 metres.
