New floodlights open the door to major night games at Kingsway’s baseball facility

Kingsway Regional Sporting Complex’s main diamond can now host major baseball and softball competition fixtures at night following the installation of new floodlighting.
The upgrade raises lighting levels to 750 lux in the infield and 500 lux in the outfield, allowing greater flexibility for the baseball and softball clubs to train and play at night.
The $660,000 project is supported by a $2 million Australian Government commitment through the Investing in Our Communities Program. The lighting upgrade was allocated $560,000 of the Australian Government grant while the remaining $100,000 was funded by the City.
The upgrade means the venue can now host major night fixtures, including state league competitions, which will support further growth, development and participation for Wanneroo Giants Baseball Club and Vikings Softball Club.
Mayor Linda Aitken welcomed the Australian Government funding which was committed back in 2022.
"This lighting project is a significant boost for baseball and softball in our community and will create exciting new opportunities for players, clubs and spectators," she said.
"The City remains committed to advocating for improved sporting infrastructure that supports our community's needs and encourages greater participation in sport.
"This latest investment further strengthens Kingsway Regional Open Space's reputation as one of Perth's premier community sporting destinations."
Federal Member for Cowan Dr Anne Aly said these upgrades will boost sporting participation within the local community.
“We have listened to the community and delivered this is a fantastic upgrade for our local sporting community and another great investment in the future of Kingsway.”
“I’m looking forward to seeing the Wanneroo Giants Baseball Club and Vikings Softball Club make the most of these fantastic new facilities, and to seeing some big night games at Kingsway.”
The remainder of the $2 million Australian Government grant will go towards a modular changeroom facility at the Kingsway Football/Athletics oval, with construction due to commence after this year’s football season and ready in time for the 2027 season.
The WA-Football-compliant design includes two changerooms, umpiring facilities, universal accessible toilets and storage.
