To ensure the City is travel friendly with balanced and sustainable transport choices, the roundabout at Mirrabooka Avenue and Kingsway will be upgraded to assist with traffic congestion and improve road safety.
Works will include:
- Widening of existing roads on Kingsway and Mirrabooka Avenue
- Roundabout modifications to accommodate a two-lane roundabout
- Improved traffic calming on approaches to the roundabout
- Kerbing and footpath remediation works
- Installation of energy absorbing bollards
- Line marking
Works are scheduled to commence on 5 January 2026, with anticipation completion within 15 weeks.
Road closures and night works
- To ensure the safety for road users and pedestrians, the majority of construction works will take place under single lane closures.
- Short duration single direction closures will be required on Kingsway at various stages of the works, with full road closures in place.
- Full road closure under night works will occur 9 March 2026 to 11 March 2026 between the hours of 7pm and 5am to allow asphalt to be laid across the intersection. Full road access will be available between 5am and 7pm across these dates.
- Continuous access to private properties will be maintained throughout these works.
- Detours will be in place during road closure periods which will, at times, result in increased traffic in the surrounding areas.
- Variable Message Boards (VMBs) will be placed on verges two (2) weeks prior to inform and guide road users during these temporary road access changes.
- During construction, temporary traffic management and relevant signage will be in place to safely manage traffic and pedestrians around the worksite.
- Whilst it is inevitable that works of this nature will cause some inconvenience, every endeavour will be made to ensure this is kept to a minimum.
