Last month, as the Australian Men’s Shed Association celebrated 30 years of Sheds, the City renewed its commitment to supporting this important cause and promoting men’s health and wellbeing.

The City is home to four Men’s Sheds, located in Yanchep, Quinns Rocks, Landsdale and Wanneroo, that welcome hundreds of locals to meet, find social support and put their skills to good use.

City of Wanneroo Director Community and Place Debbie Terelinck said the City was proud to support an association that plays such a vital role in the Wanneroo community.

“Men’s Sheds provide a safe place to connect and feel included, while engaging in a range of projects and initiatives that give back to the community including woodworking, metal work, computer refurbishment and general handywork,” Ms Terelinck said.

“The City works closely with our local Men’s Sheds to ensure they have the support they need to grow and thrive.

“Over the last three years more than $150,000 has been invested to assist with rent relief and shed construction.

“This includes more than $54,000 for the Yanchep Men’s Shed to assist with rent relief and support for initiatives.

“We’re also continuing to investigate options for a permanent site for the Yanchep Men’s Shed and, in the meantime, could provide access to a community facility for the group to continue providing social support and health and wellbeing initiatives.

“We are committed providing continued support to help local Men’s Sheds become self-sustainable and also assist them with submitting State and Federal grant funding applications, development applications and lease agreements.

People interested in joining a Med’s Shed in their local area, or those wanting to start their own Shed are encouraged to visit the Australian Men’s Shed Association website mensshed.org.
