Water flows into City’s first 50-metre pool 

About 3 million litres of water is required to fill the entire AARC aquatic system, the equivalent of nearly 90 domestic swimming pools, including 1,850 cubic metres in the 50-metre pool alone. More than 100,000 pool tiles were also laid.  

The eight-lane outdoor pool will be the first 50-metre public pool in the City of Wanneroo, giving local swimmers, particularly in the northern corridor, access to a full-length lap pool without having to travel outside the City. 

Over the coming weeks, the pools and aquatic systems will undergo extensive testing to make sure everything is operating safely and efficiently ahead of opening. 

Mayor Linda Aitken said the milestone showed what could be achieved through significant investment and collaboration across all levels of government. 

“This is an incredibly exciting milestone, not just for the City of Wanneroo, but for communities across Perth’s growing northern corridor,” she said. 

“For the first time, our community will have a 50-metre pool right here in the City, giving families, swimmers, sporting clubs and schools access to high-quality aquatic facilities much closer to home. 

“With 32 kilometres of coastline on our doorstep, swimming and water safety are an important part of life in Wanneroo. The AARC will create more opportunities for people of all ages and abilities to learn to swim, build confidence in the water and  enjoy aquatic recreation safely. 

“It represents a significant investment in the health and wellbeing of our growing community and it’s exciting to see it another step closer to opening.” 

AARC is proudly supported through the following funding:  
• $31 million from the City of Wanneroo. 
• $25 million under the Australian Government’s Priority Community Infrastructure Program and $5 million under the Female Facilities and Water Safety Stream.  
• $12.6 million from the State Government, including $10 million under the WA Recovery Program, $2.5 million from the Community Sporting and Recreation Facilities Fund and $147,592 through the Changing Places program. 
• $14.2 million through the Alkimos-Eglinton Developer Contribution Plan.
