Published Friday, 11th September 2026

The City of Wanneroo is managing confirmed cases of canine parvovirus at the Wanneroo Animal Care Centre (WACC).

Owners reclaiming dogs from WACC will be advised of the confirmed cases and given guidance on symptoms to watch for and precautions to reduce the risk of transmission.

Owners will also be offered the option of leaving their animal in the City's care for an extended period at no additional cost, should they have concerns regarding potential exposure at home with their pets.

City of Wanneroo Mayor Linda Aitken said dog owners across the district should remain vigilant.

"Parvovirus is highly contagious and can be picked up from any open space, including footpaths, beaches and parks," she said.

"The best thing any dog owner can do to protect their pet is make sure their vaccinations are up to date. I'd encourage all owners to check in with their local vet if they're unsure."

If your dog is experiencing any symptoms of being unwell please consult with your family vet.
