At the City of Wanneroo Ordinary Council Meeting on Tuesday 22 September, Council made the following key decisions:

Black spot road program

Safer roads across our City

The City is continuing to invest in safer roads, with funding secured for improvements to Old Yanchep Road and six more high-risk locations put forward for future upgrades.

Council has accepted $4.49 million in government funding to improve Old Yanchep Road, including widening and sealing the road shoulders and installing audible edge and centre lines.

The works are expected to be delivered across 2026/27 and 2027/28.

The City is also seeking Black Spot funding for safety improvements at:

  • Pinjar Road, Ashby, at the Hollosy Way and Caporn Street roundabout
  • Wanneroo Road, Girrawheen, at Templeton Crescent
  • Connolly Drive, Clarkson, at the Neerabup Road roundabout
  • Kingsway, Madeley, between Wanneroo Road and Hartman Drive
  • Gnangara Road, Wangara, at the Hartman Drive roundabout
  • Hepburn Avenue, Landsdale, at Alexander Drive.

Funding outcomes are expected by mid-2027.

Safer neighbourhoods a focus for next decade

Council has endorsed the City’s new Community Safety Strategy 2026-2036, setting out how we will support safer neighbourhoods as our community continues to grow.

The Strategy focuses on safer public spaces, emergency preparedness and using technology and data to respond to local safety issues, while strengthening coordination with WA Police, emergency services, businesses and the community.

Actions will be reviewed each year so the City can respond to emerging issues and changing community needs.

Long-term plan for Yanchep Lagoon

Council has backed a long-term plan to protect Yanchep Lagoon while guiding future improvements to the popular coastal precinct.

The Yanchep Lagoon Foreshore Management Plan will guide future public spaces, access, connections and recreation opportunities, with individual projects to come back to Council before they proceed.

Council has also progressed the next stage of coastal management works, including renewal of the Capricorn Groyne and improvements to beach, pedestrian and vehicle access along the coastline.

Major renewal coming for play equipment and shade sails across 39 parks

Thirty-nine parks across the City of Wanneroo are set for new play equipment, softfall renewal and shade sails after Council voted in favour of awarding the contracts for its 2026/27 park asset renewal program.

The $2.95 million program will see new playgrounds installed at 25 parks, rubber softfall renewed at a further seven and new shade sails built at seven park locations from Yanchep to Koondoola.

Nine contractors will carry out the work, with each park awarded individually to allow construction to be staged across the year. Tenders were assessed on sustainability, safety, experience and value for money.

Construction is expected to begin later this year. Further updates will be shared through the City's website and social media channels.

Future Alkimos Surf Lifesaving Club takes shape

Plans for a permanent home for Alkimos Surf Lifesaving Club have taken a step forward, with Council endorsing a draft concept design for community consultation.

The proposed two-storey facility at South Alkimos Beach would include lifesaving and patrol facilities, equipment storage, a gym, kiosk, function spaces and areas for broader community use.

The draft design will be open for a 28-day community consultation period alongside the Alkimos Coastal Village Foreshore Management Plan, before feedback is presented back to Council to help inform the next stage of design.

Consultation is expected to open soon. Visit yoursay.wanneroo.wa.gov.au for updates:
