City’s first Local Planning Strategy endorsed

Published Wednesday, 30th September 2026

The City of Wanneroo’s first Local Planning Strategy is set to provide clear direction for how the City will grow and develop to 2041.

Local Planning Strategy

The WA Planning Commission last week endorsed the Strategy which is aimed at balancing the City’s population and economic growth, the provision of housing and employment and the protection of the environment.

The Strategy will become the City’s overarching strategic planning document to guide future land use planning decisions.

Mayor Linda Aitken said the Strategy was informed by community and stakeholder feedback received during public consultation in 2024.

“With the population continuing to grow across Perth’s northern suburbs, the Strategy will help ensure future growth is supported by coordinated planning for housing, employment, infrastructure and services,” she said.

“The Strategy also balances future growth with the protection of the City’s important environmental assets and quality public spaces.”

The Strategy will inform the preparation of the City’s new Local Planning Scheme No. 3 and future local planning policies and plans.
