Cheers to Volunteers

Published Thursday, 30th June 2016

The efforts of volunteers from the City of Wanneroo’s emergency services were gratefully acknowledged at an appreciation dinner on Friday night.

Volunteers Function
Almost 150 people attended Bridgeleigh Reception Centre, with volunteers from Two Rocks Volunteer Marine Rescue, Wanneroo – Joondalup SES, Yanchep Fire and Rescue, Quinns Mindarie Surf Life Saving Club, Yanchep Surf Life Saving Club and the Driver Reviver program.

Wanneroo Mayor Tracey Roberts thanked all of the volunteers for giving up their time for the benefit of the community, acknowledging that they often did so in difficult and dangerous situations.

“Our emergency services volunteers have all played a role in keeping the City of Wanneroo - and our residents – safe,” Mayor Roberts said. “Whether it’s on the ocean or land, on the front line or in a support role – their skills and assistance are crucial to the well-being of our 195,000 residents.”

Mayor Roberts also presented volunteer excellence awards to four volunteers who had gone above and beyond the call of duty.

Award Recipients:
Noel Bradshaw - Wanneroo-Joondalup SES.
Craig Smith - Yanchep Fire and Rescue
David Haynes - Two Rocks Volunteer Marine Rescue Group
Kay Westphal - Two Rocks Volunteer Marine Rescue Group

The City of Wanneroo hosts several volunteer appreciation functions throughout the year to thanks the various volunteer groups, the next being the Heritage and Libraries in September.
