Landsdale - Hardcastle Park Development

Community engagement has now closed. Comments were submitted from 10/04/2017 to 07/05/2017.

Information

The City of Wanneroo undertook community consultation in November 2016 in relation to the development of Hardcastle Park, which included the distribution of a letter and concept plan to residents within a 400m radius of the Park, as well as an onsite consultation.

At the on-site consultation held on 16 November 2016, the majority of attendees were not in support of the design, for the following reasons:

  • Lack of space allocated for development
  • Bush (TEC*) should be cleared for larger development footprint
  • Location of the development was too close to the road
  • That keeping the bush would present risks of snakes and other reptiles to park users
  • That the equipment / elements did not cater well enough for older children
  • That there was no parking as part of the development

*The existing bushland on the reserve is classified as a Threatened Ecological Community (TEC20a), which is one of the highest levels for retention.

As a result, those present requested that the project be put on hold whilst an appeal is made to the State Minister for Environment & Heritage to increase the available footprint for the development of the park. Subsequently, the Mayor, Tracey Roberts, wrote to the Minister and received a response encouraging the City to liaise with the Department of Environment Regulation (DER) about requirements for a clearing permit should the City need to clear native vegetation for the proposal.

The concept design has now been revised to provide a larger turfed area for kick about and other activities, relocation of the equipment to a central location away from the road, as well as providing play equipment and accessibility where practicable within the park.

The City welcomes your feedback by completing the online survey.

The survey takes approximately 3 – 5 minutes to complete, and we thank you for taking the time to provide your feedback.

If you have any queries relating to the survey or require assistance, please contact the Community Facilities Planning team on 9405 5084. The survey closes 7 May 2017.
