As part of the 2023/24 Main Roads WA Road Improvement grants programme, the City has been advised that it has been recommended for funding to upgrade Lenore Road to a 4-lane dual carriageway from Kemp Street to Elliot Road in Hocking and Pearsall. Final state funding approval is pending and the proposed works schedule will be dependent on this.
The submission made by the City to obtain funding indicated that 4 lanes are required on this part of Lenore Road to meet current and future vehicle volume demand, reduce congestion, and improve traffic flow for the community.
Detailed design of the project is already complete, with the layout having been approved following rigorous assessment of the City’s funding submission by Main Roads WA as part of the Road Improvement grants programme (See design).
The project focuses on shorter journey times and tangible safety benefits by providing 2 lanes in each direction, a raised dividing median, U-turn facilities for property accesses to the east and upgrades at intersecting roads. The design also incorporates a 3m red asphalt shared path on the eastern side of Lenore Road, extending the City of Wanneroo Long-Term Cycle Network.
Stage 1 of Construction works are planned to commence from July onwards of the 2023/24 financial year, with stage 2 completion expected in the following 2024/25 financial year.
